HOW DO WE WORK
An Organization for solidarity, Remar is a Christian non-governmental development organization (ONGD), whose principal objective is to improve the living conditions of children, families and communities of the poorest countries.
We began our work in Spain, in 1982, amongst people with problems of drug addiction. Today we are one of the principal non-governmental organizations in Spain that are dedicated to international cooperation. We carry out a humanitarian and social work in which the ruling philosophy is to contribute towards the improvement in the living conditions of those who have least resources and opportunities. One of the identification marks of our organization is that our activities and programmes are carried out working side by side with the beneficiaries, in the realization of our planned objectives.
In all of these countries we first identify the areas of intervention and then, together with the local communities, we work on long-term projects that last from ten to fifteen years. These projects are designed to head off the structural causes of poverty and to support the strengthening of community solidarity. In the regions where we are active we also give technical and economic assistance when emergency situations arise, whether they are caused by a natural catastrophe, a military conflict or some other kind of humanitarian disaster facing the people.
In order to achieve a real and lasting impact that will improve the quality of life of those who are excluded and will promote their dignity, our development programmes integrate the potentials, the strategies and the local experience of these poverty-stricken communities.
We endeavour to strengthen the skills of those who have very little and to improve relationships within their own social reality.
We also give them apprenticeship in environmentally friendly techniques and technological productivity and we provide them with access to information useful to their own self-development.
Our intervention is centred upon the Areas of Development, and is associated with long-term processes of change. We work towards the promotion of substantial modifications in the living conditions of the least favoured.

Our area of intervention is wherever relations of inequality and exclusion exist. Our setting is the world of the socially excluded. Our approach comes from the ground level, attending to the social realities, to disadvantaged communities. We go to where there is injustice and social exclusion, we live alongside those who are suffering, we identify the causes that have led them to poverty and we work towards changing all this for the better.
Our companies do not have a commercial purpose.
They are economically profitable companies, taking into count that, the revenues covers operating costs plus depreciation plus tax, considering that the early years of any business project usually imply loss.
The annual benefits not allocated among partners, or between those responsible for the Foundation, but are intended for development projects in needy countries, building new homes, buying properties for new rehabilitation centers, opening new canteens, health centers, humanitarian aid container shipments, etc.
